First Steps of Your Therapy

Updated: Jan 11, 2019

First of all, let me congratulate you on your decision to make a first step! In this blog post I am going to explain what happens next so you know what to expect from the therapy process.

After you book your first Session (Online or In-Person), I will contact you via email or phone to confirm the session. We will agree on the price of the session too.

“What would you like to talk about?” is one of my first questions and I am open to hear your story. As a therapist, I am open to hear anything you want to tell me including but not limited to your physical, mental and emotional health or pain.

I, as your therapist, will treat what you tell me with great care. During our initial session, we will discuss confidentiality. During our initial session we will also talk about confidentiality of therapy

It's perfectly reasonable to ask questions about my approach in the first session or two. Things like: What would treatment look like? How long are we going to be working together? How will I know when we're finished?

Of course, the important part of the initial session is how comfortable is my approach to you. Finding the right therapist is crucial and, like any relationship, trust is essential.

At the end of that first session, if we decide that it is in your best interest to start with psychotherapy, we will also agree on frequency of your therapy sessions. Usually it's one session (1 hour) per week.

The length of therapy is very individual. It can be a one-time deal, a few months of sessions, or longer depending on what you're going through and what you're looking to accomplish.

During your second session, you will decide what is the priority you want to deal with. As soon as you set your goals of your therapy, we start working on them together.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, please.
